Cleaning Wisdom FAQs
Q. What makes your nontoxic cleaning method different from other green, environmentally safe, natural, homemade cleaners?
A. My cleaning method is free of substances touted as healthy yet known to trigger and aggravate allergy symptoms as well as neurological and dermatological symptoms of disease, e.g., grains, gluten, casein, corn, soy, baking soda, borax, distilled vinegar, etc.. If you do not believe me, please do a google search on nontoxic cleaning or look through the books on Amazon. You shall find that they include one or more of these substances. Furthermore, the premixed essential oils packaged for cleaning are preserved, usually with gluten, wheat germ, rice bran, soy or corn, making them toxic for many if not all people and pets.
Q. What if I am not sensitive to grains and soy, why should I switch to your cleaning method?
A. Because many of the green cleaners use other toxic chemicals that are harmful to all people, not only individuals with sensitivities to natural substances. For example, hydrogen peroxide, a known skin irritant that eats away newly forming skin cells.
Q. Does everyone need to switch to your cleaning method in order to be healthy?
A. All people shall benefit. The goal is to minimize the amount of toxins one encounters each day by eliminating those one has the power to control. Being bombarded by molecular toxins overtime does damage. Thus, proactive nontoxic cleaning shall prevent illness as well as contribute positively to restoring and maintaining wellness.
Q. Are all the products in your guidebook grain and soy free?
A. Yes, they are toxic free, grain free, corn free, gluten free, casein free and soy free.
Q. Safe for all surfaces?
A. Essential oils are safe for most surfaces. Since they are toxic free, grain free, corn free, gluten free, casein free, soy free, they may come in contact with food surfaces. As always, please read the label of anything questionable. For example, never use essential oils to clean your computer screen.
Q. How is your book different from other cleaning books that use essential oils for cleaning?
A. My guidebook uses only a select few essential oils based upon their chemistry, all of which is explained in the introduction. Often overlooked is the fact that some of the essential oils trigger symptoms of disease as do many natural substances and synthetic chemicals.
Q. Can essential oils clean up molds and fungus?
A. Yes, in fact, essential oils are a perfect solution for cleaning up molds and fungus. The antifungal essential oils are listed in the appendix of my nontoxic cleaning guidebook
Q. What about salmonella and E.coli?
A. Yes, the essential oils with antibacterial cleaning power will disinfect your home, keeping your family and you safe, your kitchen nontoxic and clean. A healthy body chemistry and a toxic free home shall render these bacteria powerless to harm your family and you. For more information, please see my blog on salmonella. Blog
Q. Will your cleaning method help with cigarette smoke?
A. Yes, essential oils do clean the air to some measure. If you live with a smoker, or if you are a smoker living with a non-smoker, using a cold air diffuser is the best way to purify the air with essential oils. However, the chemicals rolled in with tobacco are toxic. Toxins must be removed from the home in conjunction with using essential oils for cleaning. Still, the essential oils listed in my guidebook are as good as it gets for purifying the air of any and all toxins.
Q. My son was recently diagnosed with Autism. Will cleaning with essential oils help him? What about other diseases?
A. Yes, without a doubt. Cleaning supplies are often overlooked when eliminating gluten and casein from the diet. Cleaning with essential oils shall help your son by eliminating toxins as well as with the proactive powers to alter mood, restore pH balance & other harmonizing powers. Cleaning with the essential oils listed in my guidebook shall contribute positively to achieving and maintaining wellness for everyone, including people diagnosed with ADD, ADHD, Alzheimer’s, arthritis, autoimmune disease, AIDS, cancer, celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, fibromyalgia, heart disease, herpes, IBS, psoriasis, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and more.
Q. How can I keep my white linens white without bleach or brighteners?
A. To my surprise, white linens need bleach only because of all the toxic chemicals in the laundry soaps, whiteners, brighteners, dryer sheets, softeners, etc.. Removing these is half the battle. Furthermore, essential oils have the power to whiten, brighten and remove stains from laundry all without using toxic chemicals.
This includes red wine stains. Not realizing yet that essential oils would relieve my insomnia, I fell asleep while drinking a glass of red wine in bed. I was simply delighted to discover that the red wine stains came out of my white linens in a jiffy, without scrubbing. I show you how to whiten and brighten in my guidebook as well as explain in the introduction and the postscript the science behind the brightening and whitening powers of bleach, brighteners and essential oils.
Q. I have heard that dryer sheets are made with toxic chemicals. How does your cleaning method prevent static cling without the toxins in dryer sheets?
A. As it turns out, the toxic ingredients in laundry soaps, whiteners, brighteners, dryer sheets, softeners, etc. create static cling. Thus, they only apparently solve a problem that they are responsible for creating in the first place Without all of the harmful chemicals in conjunction with my nontoxic cleaning and drying laundry method, static cling disappears completely.
I took on the challenge of static cling in response to a most embarrassing experience. After arriving at the University for my PhD oral exams, in the ladies room, applying last minute lipstick, I noticed that my dress was sticking to my legs and that my hair was standing on end. I tried to add some hair product but went too far, creating instead, the appearance of oily hair. While sitting for the oral exams, answering complex philosophical questions, I kept imagining my sloppy appearance wondering if my hair were on end or flat against my cheeks with oil nearly dripping. Furthermore, every time I crossed my legs the sound of static electricity seemed to echo throughout the quiet room. Finally, unable to bear it all, I started giggling. The professors conducting my exam were not amused. The next day I began researching a solution to static cling for clothes and hair. It really is quite wonderful how negative experiences may give way to new ideas. Still, I continue to blush when reflecting upon my inappropriate laughter.
Q. Will I have to do more scrubbing with your cleaning method?
A.No, just the opposite. In fact, before I installed a water purifier in my shower, the water was very rusty and stained my newly refurbished white bathtub. I tried every cleaner and scrubber on the market and could not remove the water stains. When I switched to essential oils the stains disappeared without scrubbing. I know, it is hard to believe, yet it is true. With a water purifier now installed and cleaning with essential oils my shower sparkles white all the time and I do nothing more than wipe it clean with the bathroom elixir described in my guidebook.
Q. How is it that you have discovered a cleaning method that other scientists and engineers supported by large corporations and big dollars have failed to develop?
A. The answer is at least two-fold.
Firstly, for the last twenty years I have been in the University studying both philosophy and science. While typically one chooses either philosophy or science, I recognized early on the necessity of acquiring thorough knowledge in both disciplines. Fact is, this separation is relatively new to the history of the scholarship and it makes less of philosophy and science. Philosophers cannot make claims about facts without science and scientists cannot get started without a philosophical framework of thinking. When united, philosophy and science make one another better. Applying them to the real world in a practical way makes them great. I achieved this with Cleaning Wisdom.
Applying a new philosophical framework of thinking to the science of disinfection and cleaning resulted in my nontoxic cleaning method. I assure you, a Kantian nontoxic cleaning guidebook was not written into my life’s plan but here ‘tis and it shall help you too!
Secondly, I was dying and wanted to live. My autoimmune disease diagnosis came with a five year morbidity rate, i.e., at the end of five years I would be either disabled or dead. So that the doctors could do everything they could, every month for many years I handed over eight vials of blood. My doctors assured me that it was not my fault, that I was doing everything right. The University GP said that while unfortunate, once an immune system is jacked up to the ranks of an autoimmune disease nothing can be done, save, hope that it does not get worse. But it did. The medicine prescribed for my skin problems, priced at $200.00 a tube, was all of the sudden found to cause cancer. The antimalarial drug stole my peripheral vision and my arthritis pills, nearly to the day of my five year prognosis, caused a seizure that left me with a diminished capacity for language and short-term memory.
The absurdity of my journey into the labyrinth of failing bodily systems goes on as did my arthritis, bone pain, ataxia, neuropathy, fatigue, achey stomach, skin that ached and itched, sneezing, watery eyes, sore throat and glands so swollen that they threatened my ability to breath. Thus, I decided that hope was empty, passive, a wasted dream and I got out of bed. Putting my thinking into action, I applied my academic training in philosophy and biology to the situation, the puzzle of my so called irreparably broken body. Without a friend supporting my theories, a doctor or a nutritionist in agreement with my claims, I applied my findings to my life and within the year my body healed. Cleaning Wisdom marks the last leg of my journey to wellness, all that came before is laid out in my forthcoming Wellness In a Toxic Age.
The will to live well and the tenacity to do the hard work to find the answers where there are seemingly none is more powerful than even the best intentions, highest salaries and greedy desires.
