Finding healthy foods without reading indecipherable labels
CASEIN CAUTION — please go to Pleasure Foods
1 Organic Foods — Organic is typically the better choice since genetically modified foods are not labeled in the US. Furthermore, certified organic foods are not treated with pesticides and hormones. Do not assume, however, that if a product is certified organic and a processed food that it is good for you. It’s not. While challenging at first, soon after giving up processed foods your body will stop nudging and tempting your mind to indulge.
2 Raw Dairy — Organic dairy products are typically preserved with Ultrahigh-temperature. Pasteurization with UHT heats the milk to 135 degrees or higher for 2 to 5 seconds. While the milk may last six to ten months with this method, it has many negative repercussions, e.g., it destroys some of the nutrients, alters the proteins and brings out the sugars resulting in a sweeter taste. How this plays out in the body is yet unknown. In addition, organic sour cream and cottage cheese is often preserved with gums or beans, rendering them toxic foods. Thus, organic diary is not necessarily the healthier choice.
